Our Church today celebrates the Feast Day of St. Maria of Paris.
We are sharing an inspirational post by the Very Rev. Fr. Dimitrios Tsakas from the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Brisbane:
"Today is the Feast Day of St Maria Skobtsova. Her life is an amazing story.
Born in 1891, in her early adulthood she was a Marxist in Russia, married and divorced twice, reared three children, and eventually found her calling as a Nun living in the world. After moving to Paris, she leased an Apartment which she opened to people in desperate need of help.
During the Nazi Occupation she arranged false baptismal certificates for Jewish people in order to save them from Concentration Camps.
She herself was executed in the Concentration Camp at Ravensvruck, Germany in 1945.
St Maria of Paris was declared a Saint by our Church in 2004. She stands against religious fundamentalism, displayed a flexibility driven by Love and Mercy, and gave her life to save the Jewish people of Paris."
May she pray for us always!
